I am a Berlin-based cinemagrapher specialising in character-driven feature films and mini-series. I untangle each new project by first focusing on the main characters’ emotional perspectives. Despite having a natural predilection for graphical composition, story comes always first, aesthetics second.

Directors I work with include Sherry Horman, Damian John Harper, Alain Gsponer, Maria von Heland, Umut Dag, Stepan Altrichter, Aron Lehmann, Claudia Garde — for companies such as Netflix, X-Filme, Gaumont, Wiedemann & Berg, Constantin, Pantaleon.

I graduated in cinematography at the Film University in Babelsberg, Germany. My career was jump-started when my first feature film KOHLHAAS won numerous awards and became something of an indie darling. I was also fortunate early on to work with Marjane Satrapi, Academy Award nominee and director of “Persepolis”. To date, I have photographed 11 international feature films and prime-time television films and 4 mini-series in their entirety. My work on SCHMITKE was awarded Best Camera by the Czech Association of Cinematographers.

I was born in 1982 in Bucharest as the son of a tailor and a priest, and grew up in a German-speaking community in Transylvania. Aged 11, I followed my younger sister into acting, a childhood experience which later led me to working behind the camera.
